Utah’s Legislative Time Waste

So Utah’s legislative general session is winding down now and our illustrious elected employees have spent another session wasting their time (and ours) on ridiculous nonsense while again continuing to ignore the real issues that face our state.
They passed (and Governor Herbert signed) a lovely bit of a bill that attempts to exempt Utah from federal gun control regulations, stipulating that if a gun is wholly manufactured in Utah and is purchased in Utah such overbearing federal statutes such as criminal background checks and aut0matic weapons restrictions don’t apply. Apparently the state has enough money to engage in the legal battle that will undoubtedly stem from this ridiculous gesture, but we don’t have enough money to pay our teachers or provide quality affordable health care to our citizens.
We don’t have the time or energy to engage in debate about meaningful social issues such as equal rights for all citizens, but we do have the time to pass resolutions that explain the fallacy of global warming. We can encourage the EPA to relax regulations regarding carbon monoxide emissions, but we can’t enact protections for our own people and environment that would prevent EnergySolutions from turning Utah into the world’s largest toxic waste dump.
Look folks, I don’t care if you affiliate yourself with a political (D) or an (R). Personally, I think the entire system stinks and we waste way too much of our time and energy putting up with the idiots that cling too blindly to insane party ideologies. That being said, there are issues that need to be addressed, and we don’t have people in our elected offices that are demonstrating the desire to address those issues. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to hit the flush lever and get ourselves elected officials that have the backbone to really address the issues we face today.
